Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. seeks a capable leader in Pullman, WA to mentor teams, drive continuous improvement, and ensure safe, efficient product flow. You will mentor staff, address performance issues, and develop training plans aligned with SEL Values and manufacturing principles.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • Ability to model SEL Values to others.
  • Professional, respectful communication to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and delegate work.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and product flow.
  • Basic MS Office and department systems knowledge (Lotus Notes, Dynamics AX, SQS).
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Model SEL Values and Leadership characteristics to employees.
  • Provide clear direction to meet department production objectives.
  • Understand upstream and downstream work areas to ensure proper product flow.
  • Monitor performance, provide feedback, mentor and coach; assist with performance reviews.
  • Assess training needs and provide/oversee training.
  • Address personnel issues under guidance and settle differences productively.
  • Create/update work instructions and reports.
  • Use basic root cause and continuous improvement tools to address quality issues.
  • Promote safety standards and assist safety initiatives.
  • Model and apply SEL Values and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
  • Understand, Create, Simplify.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Model SEL Values and Leadership characteristics to employees.2. Provide clear direction to work group in order to help meet department production objectives.3. Understand upstream and downstream work areas in order to ensure accurate communication and appropriate product flow.4. Monitor employee performance, regularly provide employee feedback; empower, mentor and coach employees, write and deliver performance reviews, and assist employees in setting goals.5. Responsible for assessing employee training needs, and providing/overseeing training.6. Under guidance, actively and effectively address personnel issues and settle differences equitably and productively.7. Create, update and ensure control of area work instructions and reports.8. Utilize basic root cause and continuous improvement tools to investigate and address area quality issues.9. Promote safety standards to others and assist in implementing safety initiatives.10. Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.11. Understand. Create. Simplify.12.
