Job summary

Altria seeks an Associate Manager Manufacturing Operations (Finance) for its Richmond, VA facility. You will lead maintenance teams, coordinate multi-shift resources, mentor MULs and drive IWS initiatives while aligning with union contracts and safety/compliance standards.

You will participate in training plans for mechanics and electricians, manage staffing across 2nd/3rd shifts, and support broader OPCO goals with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience in unionized environments.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Work Systems framework, labor/contract management, and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret contracts and guide MULs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising MULs and Maintenance leads daily.
  • Conducts training for MULs; coaches and mentors MULs.
  • Assist in development and execution of training plans for mechanics and electricians.
  • Allocate resources and balance staffing across all shifts to meet maintenance requirements.
  • Independently lead IWS projects and support Pillar initiatives.
  • Fill in for managers as needed and provide back-up for department leadership.
  • Identify opportunities and provide input to improve processes.
  • Collaborate to interpret contracts and guide MULs.
  • Provide input on union relationships strategy.
  • Connect business unit goals to broader OPCO goals.
  • Open to working 2nd or 3rd shifts as needed.

Associate Manager Manufacturing Operations (Finance)

We are currently seeking a highly qualified, adaptable, and self‑motivated candidate to join the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company team as an Associate Manager Manufacturing at the Manufacturing Center in Richmond, VA. You will be responsible for goal setting and accountability, agility & continuous improvement, and critical thinking. You analyze opportunities and problems from a broad perspective and different points of view; make tough decisions that will generate the best results; challenge the way it has always been done; lead change. You show initiative and commitment - demonstrate the ability to initiate appropriate action. Effectively and efficiently manage projects across multiple areas/shifts/functions and coach others in this space.

What you will be doing:
  • Supervising MULs and Maintenance leads on their daily operations and development.
  • Conducts training for new MULs; formally and informally coaches and mentors current MULs.
  • Assist in the development and execution of training plans for mechanics and electricians.
  • Allocate resources and balance staffing levels across all three shifts to meet maintenance requirements for production, compliance, team and project objectives or goals; includes responsibility for RFTA coordination, start-up/shutdown, and weekend work planning.
  • Independently lead IWS projects requiring the application of business-specific technical practices and procedures; provide support for Pillar initiatives and Daily Management Systems.
  • Fill in for managers as needed; provide back-up/continuity for department leadership.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities and provides input to improve relevant processes.
  • Collaborates with others to interpret contracts, when relevant, and proactively provides guidance to MULs.
  • Provides input and perspective to influence strategy and approach to union relationships.
  • Understands connection points and makes decisions that factor in impacts to other areas. Routinely advise others to act in this manner.
  • Connects business unit goals to broader OPCO or organizational goals.
  • Open to working on 2nd and 3rd shifts, often on short notice.
What we want you to have:
  • Current Maintenance Unit leader and 5+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Demonstrated success as a supervisor in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations - experience within the Integrated Work Systems framework, functional knowledge, labor/contract management, and technical knowledge.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety, environmental, quality and compliance responsibilities and the ability to apply the principles of each on a regular basis and foster a culture that reinforces each on a consistent basis.
  • Understand how relevant machinery and computer applications function.
  • Detailed knowledge of work processes, products, and materials across multiple areas within the facility.
  • Takes responsibility for quality of work for self and others; analyzes root causes of issues and takes steps to prevent future related issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others both in and outside of primary areas of responsibility.
  • Able to work autonomously and can make decisions and exercise sound judgement with little to no approval. Can provide guidance to others.
  • Ability to articulate complex information in easy-to-understand terms. Clearly and routinely outline expectations and progress against the plan to individuals inside and outside of the assigned area.
  • Can adjust plans as situations change unexpectedly within the facility.
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness - proactively involves other teams to achieve results.
  • You are open to working 2nd or 3rd shifts as needed.

The starting salary is based on but not limited to experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions. The Salary Range for this position is: $104,900.00 - $152,150.00.
