Job Overview
A law firm seeks a dedicated and ambitious Associate Attorney to join its Virginia Beach office. This role offers a unique opportunity for an attorney eager to gain hands-on experience in high-stakes family law cases and complex civil, business, and estate litigation. Working directly alongside a senior managing attorney, the selected candidate will play a key role in trial preparation, courtroom advocacy, client interaction, and case management. The firm is also committed to fostering long-term career growth, providing the support and flexibility for the attorney to develop their own client base over time.

Duties

  • Act as second chair in complex family law, civil litigation, business disputes, and estate litigation matters.
  • Collaborate directly with senior attorneys to develop case strategy and trial plans.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and briefs.
  • Manage client communications and provide regular case updates.
  • Conduct and defend depositions.
  • Handle motion hearings, evidentiary proceedings, and oral arguments in court.
  • Coordinate with paralegals to ensure efficient case progression.
  • Build and cultivate a personal client base with firm support.
  • Network within the local legal community to strengthen referral sources.
  • Participate in legal marketing and outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong presence in the Tidewater community to enhance the firm’s local reputation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of civil litigation experience, preferably with a focus on family law.
  • Strong legal writing, analytical thinking, and courtroom advocacy skills.
  • Experience working within Virginia courts, particularly in the Tidewater region.
  • Willingness to manage fluctuating caseloads inherent to litigation practices.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced environments and juggle competing deadlines.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Virginia.
