Our customers include major public cloud and silicon providers, along with industry leaders across sectors. Teams meet in person 2-4 times a year in various interesting locations worldwide to align on strategy and execution.

We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support the technical needs of customers using Ubuntu and open source products. This role offers hands-on experience, a passion for Linux and open source, and the opportunity to work with industry experts at Canonical.

You will handle complex technical issues, from cloud environments to kernel crashes, providing expert support across the full technical stack at Canonical, including cloud, desktop, and IoT. You will own your cases from problem qualification to resolution, collaborating with colleagues and senior engineers as needed. This is a remote, global role.

Location:

This is a globally remote role.

Role responsibilities include:
  1. Providing technical support remotely via phone, email, and web.
  2. Owning and managing support cases, ensuring SLA compliance and high customer satisfaction.
  3. Contributing to and maintaining knowledge base articles.
  4. Drafting technical notices for communication.
  5. Prioritizing tasks effectively.
  6. Continuously learning about evolving products and services.
  7. Understanding Ubuntu development to set realistic customer expectations.
  8. Communicating regularly with team members.
  9. Suggesting improvements to service quality.
  10. Participating in weekend rotation support.
Candidate requirements:
  • Strong academic background from high school and university.
  • Degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering) or relevant experience.
  • Confidence in communication and feedback exchange.
  • Proven record of exceeding expectations.
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux systems.
  • Knowledge or experience in at least two areas from Linux server administration, programming, networking, or virtualization/cloud computing.
  • Quick learner, adaptable, and able to handle customer-facing pressure.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Respect for diversity and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Result-driven with a strong commitment to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks.

Note: Background checks will be conducted.

Nice-to-have skills:
  • Experience with virtualized environments like KVM, VirtualBox, or VMWare.
  • Knowledge of open-source desktop technologies.
  • Active contributions to open-source projects or forums.
