Job summary

The University of Utah's Continuing Education and Community Engagement’s English Language Institute is hiring in-person adjunct ESL instructors to teach ESL classes on a rolling basis. No online classes.

Adjunct instructors join a program focused on improving access to higher education and serving a diverse student population in Salt Lake City. The role requires a Master’s in TESOL or related field and teaching experience across multiple skills.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in TESOL or related field with a TESOL certificate.
  • Teaching experience across a variety of skills and levels preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ESL classes according to class objectives and materials.
  • Prepare class syllabus using syllabi templates and follow the Faculty Handbook.
  • Attend a faculty meeting and 1 sponsored activity per session (4 hrs total).
  • Maintain attendance, report daily, record grades weekly, arrange substitutes if needed, and communicate with ELI daily.

Job Summary

Responsibilities
  • Teach ESL classes according to the class objectives and materials
  • Read ELI Mission and curriculum, prepare class syllabus according to the provided syllabi templates, read and follow guidelines outlined in the ELI Faculty Handbook
  • Attend one faculty meeting and 1 sponsored activities (4 hrs. total) per session
  • Keep attendance, report attendance daily, record grades weekly, be able to arrange for substitutes in the event of an absence, maintain communication with ELI and check email daily
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in TESOL or in a related field with a TESOL Certificate
  • Teaching experience, preferably in a variety of skills and levels
