Job summary

TCAT Athens is accepting applications for a full-time Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting Associate Instructor. This role will teach in classroom and clinical settings, supervise students, evaluate progress, and maintain records.

Classes run Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with travel to other TCAT Athens campuses as needed. The instructor will participate in course/curriculum development, stay current with instructional methods, and assist in recruitment and placement

Qualifications

• Must be a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with current active licensure in the State of Tennessee.
• Minimum three (3) years of successful nursing experience including two (2) or more years of long-term care experience highly preferred.
• Prior teaching or evidence of ability to teach students preferred.
• Possess the knowledge, experience and certifications necessary to instruct in the areas of Certified Nuse Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG, CPR, First Aid, Anatomy, and Medical Records.

Responsibilities

• On-campus teaching and supervision of PCT/MA students in classroom and clinical settings; evaluating and advising students; maintaining records; completing reports.
• Instruction areas include anatomy, medical terminology, phlebotomy, electrocardiography, medical math; schedule 7:30 AM–3:30 PM, travel to other TCAT Athens campuses may be required.
• Facilitate the instructional process: evaluate student progress, assign grades, provide academic help, maintain attendance and grade records, counsel students on career goals.
• Course and curriculum development: select texts, equipment, and learning resources; develop instructional materials; maintain syllabi.
• Professional development: stay current in instructional methodologies; participate in college professional development and activities; support professional organizations.
• Service to students: comply with FERPA; assist with advising, recruitment, admissions, and job placement.
• Service to the College: participate in accreditation, assessment, budgeting input, and college programs; maintain advisory committee.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This position will work a minimum of 37.5 hours a week. Classes are anticipated to start in September 2026.

Job Duties

• The Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting (PCT/MA) Associate Instructor is responsible for the following areas, including, but not limited to: on-campus teaching and supervision of PCT/MA students in classroom and clinical settings; evaluating and advising students; maintaining confidential, accurate, and complete records on paper and electronically; completing reports as required in a timely manner; participating in the development of the program; participating in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates; maintaining an active advisory committee; and other duties as assigned.
• Areas of instruction include, but are not limited to: anatomy, medical terminology, phlebotomy, electrocardiography, medical math, etc. This position reports to the Director of Nursing. Class hours are set Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. As a clock-hour institution this schedule must be maintained. Clinical hours may vary. Travel to other TCAT Athens campuses and alternative clinical sites may be required. Classes are anticipated to start in September 2026.
• Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours.
• Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi.
• Professional Development: Remain current within instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
• Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities including SkillsUSA and NTHS.
• Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend graduation exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus.
