Job summary

TRATON SE, including the International brand in South San Antonio, seeks an Associate HR Manager to partner with the Plant HR Manager and leadership. The role drives employee relations, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness during the Second Shift launch of the 3 million-square-foot facility that produces Class 6–8 trucks.

You will support onboarding, training alignment, staffing, communications, and change management as the operation transitions to the 2nd Shift in 2027.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field with 4+ years of HR experience
  • Master's degree plus 2+ years HR experience, or 6+ years HR experience
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments is highly preferred

Join a transformational growth initiative and play a key role in launching and scaling Second Shift operations at one of North America's largest commercial truck manufacturing facilities.

Associate HR Manager serves as an HR partner to the Plant HR Manager and manufacturing leadership team, driving employee engagement, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, employee relations, and continuous improvement across the operation.

This highly visible role plays a critical part in the successful launch and stabilization of our Second Shift expansion, helping build the workforce that will support continued growth at our 3 million-square-foot manufacturing plant in South San Antonio, where we proudly produce Class 6, 7, and 8 commercial trucks.

Night Shift Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 PM-4:30 AM

This role will initially begin on 1st Shift (Mon - Thurs 5:30 AM - 4:00 PM) to complete training, onboarding, and establish key plant partnerships before transitioning to the assigned 2nd Shift schedule upon launch in 2027. During the 2nd Shift launch, this role will dotted line report to the Launch HR Program Manager to support workforce readiness, process support, and operational stabilization.

A 10% shift differential is provided once transitioned to the assigned 2nd Shift schedule. Schedules and start times may vary based on business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Business partner to the Plant HR Manager and manufacturing leadership team by providing advanced guidance and support across employee relations, workforce planning, talent management, HR programs, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Support the HR Program Manager and launch team to execute a successful implementation of 2nd Shift operations, including: workforce readiness, staffing execution, onboarding and training alignment, employee communications, change management
  • Initially support 1st Shift operations to complete training, onboarding, establish key partnerships, gain familiarity with plant processes and operations, and transition effectively into dedicated 2nd Shift HR support.
  • Transition to dedicated HR support for the 2nd Shift production team by building relationships with leaders and employees, addressing workforce needs, and ensuring consistent application of HR policies and practices.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Business Team Leaders, Managers, and Supervisors on: employee relations, attendance, performance management, policy interpretation, leadership practices
  • Lead and independently manage complex employee relations matters, including investigations, workplace concerns, corrective actions, performance issues, and terminations—ensuring consistency, compliance, and documentation.
  • Analyze employee relations trends and workforce data to identify root causes, recommend solutions, and implement proactive strategies that improve engagement, retention, and operational performance.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and business leaders to support workforce planning, including staffing strategies, recruiting support, candidate selection support, onboarding readiness, and production ramp-up activities.
  • Support development and implementation of HR processes, routines, and leadership expectations required to support successful shift launches and ongoing plant operations.
  • Analyze workforce metrics (turnover, absenteeism, staffing levels, engagement results, retention trends) and provide data-driven recommendations to leadership.
  • Lead assigned HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives focused on workforce stability, employee experience, operational effectiveness, and process improvements.
  • Prepare and deliver HR reports, dashboards, presentations, and workforce analytics to support leadership decision-making and business objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, employment laws, EEO requirements, and HR procedures; ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Support compensation planning, performance management processes, workforce planning goals, and implementation of employee programs and initiatives.
  • Supervise and coach HR team members and provide leadership support by:
    • mentoring and developing less experienced HR team members
    • advising on HR best practices and process improvement
    • helping ensure consistent execution of HR standards
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across HR, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Training, Talent Acquisition, and other functional teams to drive alignment and successful execution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, and employee experiences; recommend solutions to enhance efficiency, consistency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Represent the company professionally while supporting employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, hiring events, and workforce development activities.
  • Support production recovery days (Fridays) as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of human resources or labor experience

  • Master's degree and at least 2 years of human resources or labor experience

  • At least 6 years of human resources or labor experience

Desired Skills
  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience, preferably supporting a manufacturing or industrial production environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, workforce challenges, production environments, and the unique HR needs of hourly and salaried populations.
  • Experience supporting new shift launches, production ramp-ups, workforce expansions, or high-volume hiring initiatives (strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams) and HR systems (e.g., HRIS, applicant tracking, timekeeping systems).
  • Ability to perform data analysis and leverage key performance metrics to identify root causes and support data-driven decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence through collaboration in a fast-paced environment, and to lead complex ER matters with sound judgment.
