South Carolina State University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics seeks an Associate Head Coach for Cross Country/Track & Field. The role reports to the head coach and supports program vision, skill development, and recruitment of student-athletes.

The candidate will supervise practice, travel, and academic activities, serving as a role model for student-athletes and performing duties as assigned by the head coach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• USATF Level I certification.
• At least three years of collegiate coaching experience in cross-country/distance events.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Current NCAA recruiting and rules implementation certification.
• Must pass drug screening.
• Must be physically able to demonstrate skills for student-athletes.

Responsibilities

• Direct support of the head coach's vision, goals, and strategies.
• Teach practice and competition skills for cross country/track events as directed.
• Recruit high-caliber student-athletes to attend and compete for the university.
• Supervise practice, study halls, and team travel under head coach guidance.
• Act as mentor and positive influence for student-athletes in the track program.
• Coordinate administrative tasks delegated by the head coach.
• Travel with the program to represent the university at events.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.

South Carolina State University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking to hire an Associate Head Coach, Cross Country/ Track & Field. The assistant coach will report directly to the head track coach and is directly responsible for the following duties.

Description of Duties

• Direct support of the vision, goals, and strategies of the head coach.
• Serves as a teacher in practice and competition with respect to individual and team skill development for the cross country/track program in event areas as directed by the head coach.
• Is certified to recruit high-caliber student-athletes to attend and compete for the University.
• Supervises practice, skill sessions, study hall, and team travel under the supervision of the head coach.
• Serves as a mentor and positive influence on the student-athletes in the track program.
• Coordinates administrative responsibilities as delegated by the head track coach.
• Travels representing the university at various functions as directed by the head coach.
• Any other program-relevant duties as assigned by the head coach.

• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• USATF Level I certification
• At least three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level specifically in cross-country and distance events.
• Employee must gain possession of a valid driver’s license
• Current certification for NCAA recruiting and rules implementation
• Pass routine and random drug screening as mandated by the Department of Athletics.
• The employee must be physically able to demonstrate many of the skills required for the student-athlete to succeed in their respective sport.
• The employee also must be able to work outdoors during a variety of weather conditions - hot, cold, and/or rainy.

Preferred Requirements

USTFCCCA certification is preferred.
