This 11-month, part-time position (up to 0.30 FTE) is based at Queen's Medical Center and University Tower, Honolulu. The Director oversees accreditation, curriculum, research, and education across clinical and academic settings, guiding residents, students, and faculty.

Qualifications

  • MD degree or equivalent issued by an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Neurology by ABPN or equivalent is required.
  • Hawaii medical license valid by date of hire.
  • Experience at senior faculty rank or equivalent healthcare leadership.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and education leadership.
  • Ability to lead in a complex medical education environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Neurology residency program director with full administrative accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the Program Director for the Neurology residency, with full accountability for program administration, accreditation compliance, and adherence to all applicable regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Leads curriculum development, implementation, and continuous evaluation for graduate and post-graduate Neurology residency education.
  • Provides instruction and mentorship to medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and faculty across clinical and academic settings.
  • Conducts, supports, and promotes research and scholarly activity within the division.
  • Oversees and continuously assesses the residency learning environment to ensure excellence in education, professionalism, and patient care.
  • Performs additional academic, clinical, and scholarly responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Professor MQ's:
  • MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Maintaining board certification in Neurology through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, or similar.
  • Valid Hawaii Medical license by date of hire.
  • Four years at the rank of Assistant professor, or four years of other health care experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other experience, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another health care school of recognized standing.
  • Evidence of effective research and scholarly activity (i.e., recent publications in peer-reviewed journals or regional/national presentations, quality initiatives, or medical education administration).
  • Recognition for having made a significant scholarly contribution to the clinical specialty.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Evidence of excellent patient care in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience functioning in a complex system of multiple organizations and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements.
Full Professor MQ's:
  • Same as Associate Professor plus:
  • Four years at rank of Associate Professor, or four ten years of other health care experience, or a total of ten years of teaching in the rank of Associate Professor and other health care experience, or one year in the rank of Professor at another health care school of recognized standing.
  • Recognition for having made a major contribution to the clinical specialty.
  • Demonstrated capacity for leadership in the clinical department and health care profession.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Ability to create an environment where respectful discussion is welcome, with the goal of continued improvement of the educational experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Subspecialty-specific expertise and qualifications acceptable per the ACGME Review Committee.
  • Eligibility for clinical privileges at The Queen's Health.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Experienced in academic leadership within the Neurology division.
