WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Geotechnical Engineer for our Tempe, AZ office. The successful candidate will support project managers in delivering geotechnical engineering projects to clients. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and be a proactive problem solver.

Your Responsibilities
  1. Perform geotechnical field investigations and oversee construction.
  2. Set up investigations, including coordinating with drillers, traffic control, permits, utility locates, etc.
  3. Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources such as soil samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and maps.
  4. Maintain quality control standards for measurements.
  5. Support basic engineering computations like foundation design and slope stability under senior engineer guidance.
  6. Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings based on project specifications.
  7. Prepare geotechnical design reports under supervision.
  8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects.
  9. Assist with work plan preparation, fieldwork, and permitting.
  10. Complete training on assigned tasks.
  11. Work with engineers and planners on projects involving infrastructure authorities.
  12. Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s policies.
  13. Travel to project sites in Arizona and possibly the western US, with field work up to 50% and travel up to 30% beyond the Phoenix area.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering or related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to policies.
  • Flexible work schedules; occasional travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Relevant internship experience.
  • AutoCAD experience.
