The Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) seeks an Associate General Counsel to join its legal team. You will apply specialized civil rights knowledge, provide privileged advice, and support decision‑making and planning across the agency.

Role includes negotiating settlements, researching law, and advising senior leadership. Hybrid work up to 50% telework; position located in St. Paul with standard daytime hours, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and active Minnesota license with four years of civil rights/anti‑discrimination experience.
• Ability to draft memos, research statutes/case law, and negotiate settlements.
• Strong written and oral communication; ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in practice.

Responsabilités

• Provide strategic legal advice during human rights investigations.
• Ensure discrimination findings meet legal standards and negotiate settlements.
• Research and analyze state/federal statutes, rules, and case law.
• Advise the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and agency managers on matters.
