Job summary

Con Edison is seeking an Associate Engineer to design and oversee gas transmission systems, including regulator stations and pipelines. The role involves cost estimates, bid evaluation, and authorizing design modifications to meet safety and regulatory standards.

The position requires collaboration across departments, field presence in service areas, and the development of procedures for intrusive activities. Travel within the service territory and emergency on-call duties are possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical) required.
• Minimum 2 years of full-time engineering work experience.
• Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Designs pipe installations, regulating station installations, and remote operating valve installations. Prepares cost estimates and design sketches for these installations, including budget paperwork.
• May serve as project leader for cross-department initiatives.
• Ensures designs comply with regulations, policies, and procedures; oversee major projects during construction.
• Provides field support across gas service areas (Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Westchester).
• Produces written procedures for all intrusive work on the gas transmission system; supports related procedures.
• Supports the System Emergency Gas Engineer on call and participates in Emergency Assignments.
• Responds to system emergencies and coordinates with Gas Control, Regional Operations, and ERC to rectify issues.
• Manages all documentation and ensures electronic/hard copy records in a data repository.
• Complies with NY State PSC Regulations and PHMSA regulations.
• Monitors welding practices and provides guidance on pipeline welding, including butt and fillet welds.
• Specifies pipeline welding inspection techniques per API-1104 section 9.
