Job summary

City University of Seattle's School of Education and Leadership is seeking qualified part-time Teaching Faculty and subject matter experts to support our Teacher Certification Program. The program prepares preservice teachers, as well as some in-service educators, at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We are particularly interested in educators with recent P-12 practitioner experience and demonstrated expertise in culturally sustaining, identity-affirming, and inclusive educational

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of teaching experience in a P-12 classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in one or more of the areas listed above.
  • Experience working with diverse P-12 student populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Zoom, and the ability to learn and use online learning management systems and other instructional technologies.
  • Ability to provide effective instruction and meaningful feedback to adult learners.

Job Description:

The program prepares preservice teachers, as well as some in-service educators, at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Candidates with experience working with diverse student populations?including multilingual learners, immigrant and first-generation students, students with disabilities and neurodivergent students, paraeducators, and historically underserved communities?are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of teaching experience in a P-12 classroom environment.

  • Experience working with diverse P-12 student populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Zoom, and the ability to learn and use online learning management systems and other instructional technologies.
  • Ability to provide effective instruction and meaningful feedback to adult learners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State Teacher or Administrator Certificate.
  • Recent P-12 practitioner experience, preferably within the last five years.
  • Graduate degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience serving diverse student populations, including multilingual learners, immigrant and first-generation students, students with disabilities or who are neurodivergent, paraeducators, and historically underserved communities.
  • Teaching and/or leadership experience across multiple roles, grade levels, and subject areas.
  • Experience providing instruction, professional development, and evaluative feedback to adult learners, particularly educators, in online, hybrid, and/or in-person environments.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in adult learning theory, learning science, neuroscience, and inclusive adult learning.
  • Experience working with preservice teachers in teacher preparation, clinical practice, and field experience settings.
  • Experience teaching in online learning platforms such as Canvas, Brightspace D2L, Blackboard, or similar systems.

Compensation

Associate Faculty compensation ranges from $500 to $4,600 per course assigned. Compensation varies based on factors including course level (undergraduate or graduate), number of course credits, and enrollment.

Associate Faculty Pool and Course Assignments

Part-Time Teaching Faculty are hired into a general faculty pool and may be nominated for individual course assignments based on program needs. Course assignments are not guaranteed and may vary based on enrollment, course format, location, areas of expertise and qualification, and other program needs.

Individual assignments may include online asynchronous, online synchronous, and/or in-person instruction. Some courses may require weekend availability.
