Position Description:

Are you passionate about strategic space planning, optimizing facility layouts, and contributing to master planning initiatives? The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking an Associate Facilities Planner to join our Planning, Design, and Construction team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our campus, ensuring cost-effective space utilization, and collaborating with legal, finance, and facilities teams to drive institution-wide efficiencies. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on our academic medical environment while working in a dynamic, team-oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Optimize interior layouts based on space requirement data to create functional designs and floor plans.
  2. Manage space information data to analyze current and future planning needs.
  3. Conduct space audits to determine needs, priorities, and maintain data accuracy.
  4. Document and implement standards for owned and leased spaces, furnishings, equipment, and finishes.
  5. Update signage across all facilities.
  6. Develop methods for data collection, updating, and measuring data integrity related to campus projects.
  7. Conduct impact and space utilization studies, collaborating with users and management.
  8. Manage space requests and inquiries processes.
  9. Collaborate to ensure space efficiency and usability.
  10. Research regulations and building codes for space planning compliance.
  11. Provide budget estimates for space modifications and furniture.
  12. Present design concepts using visual aids like drawings and 3-D images.
  13. Support staffing and materials for space management committees.
  14. Build partnerships with campus institutions for planning initiatives.
  15. Assist project managers with interior design standards and options.
Preferred Schedule:

Monday - Friday; Standard Business Hours

Position Requirements:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Environmental Design, Interior Design, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in facilities or space planning.
  • Knowledge of building codes, ADA, and space utilization best practices.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and space management software.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare or medical research environments.
  • Knowledge of furniture standards, signage, and interior space planning.
  • Certifications like NCIDQ, NCARB, PMP, or AIA.
