Job description

Job Title: Associate, Facilities

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Associate, Facilities is responsible for maintaining the Blair Audubon Center and the surrounding Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary grounds and buildings. The primary focus is on the upkeep of the boardwalk, buildings, and fleet equipment. This role involves assisting with maintenance tasks around campus, on the Boardwalk, and in the field. Responsibilities include keeping buildings clean and operational, executing maintenance tasks, operating a computerized maintenance management system, and communicating via email and apps. This position is on-site at Audubon Florida - Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

Compensation:

$18.00 - $20.00 / hour

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain the 2.25-mile boardwalk to ensure safety year-round.
  • Update work orders using maintenance software.
  • Clean and organize shops, storage, fleet, and mechanical areas.
  • Assess and troubleshoot equipment, performing repairs as needed.
  • Perform carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work.
  • Operate large equipment such as tractors, front loaders, excavators, forklifts, swamp buggies, and dump trucks.
  • Transport heavy equipment and run errands.
  • Assist with special events, setting up meeting rooms and other spaces.
  • Travel weekly/monthly to off-campus sites for maintenance and projects.
  • Maintain a culture of safety.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in facilities management or a related field required; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • 3-5 years of carpentry experience preferred.
  • Experience with boardwalks and docks is a plus.
  • Skilled in rough carpentry and substructure repairs.
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work.
  • Knowledge of facility/maintenance operations and heavy equipment.
  • Experience working with volunteer groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet navigation.
  • Willing to learn new software and applications.
  • Flexible work hours to support sanctuary needs.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with staff and interact positively with visitors and community members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, professional ethic, punctuality, honesty, and reliability.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating pride and ownership in work.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safety and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders over 12 feet, and maneuver in attics and rooftops (with or without accommodations).
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
