Job summary

The University of Wyoming Extension seeks an Extension Volunteer Specialist to lead volunteer development across 4-H programs, coordinating statewide efforts and supporting county extension staff. This role requires expertise in volunteer program management, risk oversight, and positive youth development.

Responsibilities include training staff, evaluating program impacts, and ensuring compliance with volunteer policies.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required in volunteer development, youth development, agriculture education, extension education, K-12 education, or closely related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience relevant to the essential duties of this position.
• Broad understanding of volunteer development, youth development, educational leadership, extension education, risk management, human resources, and/or community vitality with subject matter competence.
• Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record compliant with University requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop volunteer leadership best practices, curricula, training opportunities, and professional development for UW Extension.
• Lead the development of a statewide volunteer management system, including background checks and risk management coordination.
• Collaborate with state specialists to implement statewide volunteer committees and related efforts.
• Regularly review and revise volunteer policies and procedures for 4-H and other extension programs.
• Provide statewide leadership for volunteer education and recognition and support county professionals in volunteer recruitment.
• Create training for staff with volunteer management responsibilities and lead professional development for volunteers.
• Evaluate impacts of the UW Extension volunteer program at various levels and communicate results.
• Provide feedback and coaching to volunteers and Extension educators to ensure compliance with codes of conduct and policies.
