Job summary

The Huntington invites applications for an Associate Exhibition Designer to develop 2-D and 3-D display designs across its Art Museum, Library, and Botanical divisions. You will set design standards and collaborate with curators, editors, registrars, conservators, and fabricators to ensure accessible, high-quality exhibition elements.

The role supports multiple departments under the Head of Exhibition Management, emphasizing inclusive design and coordination with external vendors and project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in graphic design, environmental graphic design, exhibition design, architecture, art, or related field.
• Minimum four years of professional experience in the position offered or related occupation.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite incl. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator; Vectorworks for space planning; Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Design exhibition identity and graphics, including title walls, interpretive panels, object labels, wayfinding, and signage, from concept through production.
• Maintain consistent visual standards across galleries and exhibitions using various materials and applications.
• Coordinate production with internal teams and external vendors to fabricate, deliver, and install graphics and signage.
• Research, prototype, test, and evaluate materials and production methods for durability and suitability.
• Review exhibition text with curators/editors and manage proofs through final approval.
• Prepare files for in-house printing and produce graphics for displays and exhibitions.
• Develop design concepts and construction drawings for layouts and built environments.
• Ensure designs meet curatorial objectives, conservation standards, lender requirements, codes, and budgets.
