Job summary

Leviton is seeking an Associate Embedded Firmware Engineer to research, develop, and apply firmware for our commercial products. You will work under moderate supervision through the product life cycle, from specification to release and manufacturing support.

You will design and implement firmware for electrical assemblies, develop test data, and assist with hardware selection. The role emphasizes documentation, debugging, and collaboration with multiple engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer Science or other Engineering related field.
  • 0-2 years experience in embedded hardware & software engineering, design & development. Internship close to this field.
  • Experience with embedded firmware in C or C++.
  • Experience with 16/32 bit MCUs and ARM processors.
  • Understanding RTOS concepts and event-driven real time firmware.

Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware and test specifications for products.
  • Design & develop firmware/software for electrical assemblies per specifications.
  • Write efficient code for complex programming assignments.
  • Develop test data, perform unit tests, and assist in system testing and documentation.

About the role

This position is responsible for the research, development, and application of software as it relates to new and existing commercial products. As required, this position may encompass the following steps of the product life cycle: specification, design, implementation, testing, release, and manufacturing support. The Associate Embedded Firmware Engineer works under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Product and Engineering Management in the various stages of product development, as required.
  • Develop firmware and test specification for products.
  • Assist with component selection and hardware design.
  • Assist with development of an operations manual, if applicable.
  • Design & develop firmware/software for electrical assemblies for products according to the specifications.
  • Develop application systems. This includes preparing requirement specifications, analysis, design, coding, implementation, and testing components of application as assigned, according to defined application requirements.
  • Write efficient code for complex programming assignments.
  • Develop comprehensive test data, conduct independent unit tests and assist in system testing and documentation.
  • Prepare Statements of Work, Project Plans, and follow through with problems in a timely manner.
  • Debug low level issues for new and existing products.
  • Assist other engineers for development and testing of new and existing products.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer Science or other Engineering related field
  • 0-2 years experience in embedded hardware & software engineering, design & development. Prior internship experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industry practices and tools in the implementation of embedded hardware and software technology
  • Experience with embedded firmware in C or C++
  • Experience in designing firmware using 16/32 microcontrollers and ARM processors
  • Understanding of RTOS concepts and expertise in designing event driven real time firmware
  • Experience in designing firmware for CAN, BLE, UART, SPI, I2C or other communication protocols
  • Experience using debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or JTAG debuggers
  • Must have strong debugging critical thinking.
  • Experience writing unit tests is a plus
  • Experience in wireless protocols like Matter, BLE, ZigBee, Z-wave or WiFi is a plus
  • Experience in Linux is a plus
