Job summary

Leviton in Melville, NY is seeking a hands-on engineering technician to support Residential engineering design and development by assisting the engineering team and performing product development evaluations. You will assemble prototypes, run development tests, and assist with documentation.

Responsibilities include maintaining lab equipment, troubleshooting, and preparing component kits for prototype builds. A strong electronics background and AS degree are required for success in this role.

Qualifications

• AS degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology required.
• Experience with electronics lab equipment and troubleshooting electronics assemblies is expected.
• Minimum three years of experience in a product development environment.

About the role

This position supports Residential engineering design and development by assisting the engineering team and performing product development evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Assists with assembling prototypes and application fixtures


• Performs development testing as directed and supervised by engineering staff


• Perform Engineering Specification testing in accordance with documented internal procedures


• Assists engineers in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and replication of product failures


• Participates in maintenance of the engineering lab including equipment, materials and component inventory


• Prepares documentation and kit of electronic components for prototype build activity

Qualifications

• Capable of soldering and rework of electronic assemblies including all type of SMT components


• Able to operate lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, frequency generators, network analyzers


• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel


• Familiar with Schematic Capture and PCB layout


• Altium experience is a plus


• Must be able to read and interpret schematics and specifications


• Good organizational skills


• Good communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of management


• Capable of creating technical / procedural documentation

Education & Experience

• A minimum of an AS degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology


• Experience with electronics lab equipment


• Experience troubleshooting electronics assemblies


• Minimum three years of experience in a product development environment
