Job summary

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking an Associate Engineer in Lake Mary, Florida to provide entry-level civil engineering support on electrical substation and transmission line projects. You will help with site layout, grading, stormwater, permitting, and construction support.

The role involves building design models, performing drainage analyses, and developing construction specifications while growing technical skills in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

• EI/EIT certification preferred.
• 1+ years of civil engineering experience in electric utility.
• Experience with Civil 3D and related software.
• Experience with design codes and standards.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and sketches.
• Ability to work safely and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Build design models using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation and stormwater analysis programs.
• Design transmission right-of-way access improvements including culvert sizing and drainage analysis.
• Develop civil construction specifications.
• Learn and understand design criteria and evaluate alternatives.
• Prepare work packages and release letters.
• Manage multiple tasks across projects.

About the Role:

As an Associate Engineer, you will provide entry-level engineering and technical expertise on civil engineering design projects for electrical substations and transmission line right-of-way projects. This position prepares guidance for site layout, grading design, retaining wall design, stormwater analysis, permitting, containment structure design, survey coordination, and civil construction support.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Build design models using the Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and stormwater analysis programs
• Conduct transmission right-of-way access improvement design including culvert sizing, stormwater drainage analysis, stabilization specification, construction support, and inspection
• Develop civil construction specifications
• Learn and understand design criteria
• Evaluate and provide commentary on design alternatives
• Compose work packages and release letters
• Effectively manage multiple tasks for multiple projects

What You Bring:

• EI/EIT certification (preferred)
• 1+ years of related civil engineering experience in the electric utility industry (preferred)
• Experience using Civil 3D and other related software (preferred)
• Experience with design codes and standards
• Understanding of basic practices for researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
• Ability to prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
• Ability to work in a safe manner and always obey safety regulations
• Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in an unstructured, varied, and deadline-driven work environment
• Effective communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation skills)
• Demonstrated verbal and technical writing skills
• Ability to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
