Job summary

Generac Power Systems Inc in Whitewater, WI is seeking an Associate Engineer to support the Engineering Lab with test equipment, test setup, and data acquisition under limited supervision. You will design and build test fixtures, calibrate lab gear to ISO 17025 standards, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve testing issues while documenting procedures and maintaining safety.

This position requires durable hands-on skills with electrical and mechanical test equipment, familiarity

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 15 years relevant work experience, or 12 years with an Associate Degree in related field.

Responsibilities

  • Support test equipment and setup for product testing per test procedures.
  • Prepare data acquisition devices for recording measurements.
  • Design, build, implement, and document electrical and mechanical test fixturing to support lab testing needs.
  • Maintain test and lab equipment for calibration and ISO 17025 compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal/external engineering teams to support lab work.
  • Respond to lab support requests in a timely manner and drive to resolution.
  • Assist with calibration of test equipment and adherence to 5S and audit programs.
  • Contribute to cost reduction and equipment improvement initiatives.

Partnering with Engineering and other Lab functions to determine specific test equipment and resource needs to support test execution. Should be able to communicate effectively, document work, create procedures, design, and build test fixtures.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma.15 Years relevant work experience, or 12 years of relevant experience and an Associate Degree in related field.High School Diploma or equivalentProficiency in proper use and application of various hand and power tools.Proficiency in use of basic and advanced electrical and mechanical test equipment.Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree in related field.Proficiency working with thermocouples, pressure sensors, and other electrical & mechanical sensors.Knowledge with internal combustion engine assemblies.2 years in fields related to the type of products Generac produces.Proficiency working with Data Acquisition Systems.Knowledge of ISO 17025Experience in welding & shaping sheet metalExperience participating in a team-based environment with some project leadership experience.Experience in electrical generation devices and related components.Experience in mechanical or electrical related field.Experience in electrical loading and AC & DC power generation systems.Experience in electrical & mechanical design, componentry, and ability to create and interpret schematics & blueprints.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:70% Essential DutiesTesting & Support:Support test equipment and setup for product testing per test procedures.Prepare the use of various data acquisition devices for recording mechanical, electrical, and environmental measurements.Design, build, implement, and document electrical & mechanical test fixturing to support lab testing needs.Maintain test and lab equipment for calibration, functionality, and operation in accordance of ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.Work closely with internal and external engineering teams as needed to support lab work.Respond to and be pro-active about lab support requests in a timely manner, effectively, efficiently, and drive to resolution.Support R&D testing issues through troubleshooting, diagnosis, solution, and improvements.Actively participate in cost reductions solutions.Actively participate in product and test equipment improvements.25% Essential DutiesClerical:Correlate and document test data using proper forms and procedures for engineering.Maintain test-related documentation in database environment.Lead and support Calibration of test equipment and instrumentation.Assist with Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and organizational 5S programs.Update and develop policies and procedures supporting the continuous improvement of the Engineering Lab.5% Other DutiesOther Duties:Collaborate with Engineers for planning of testing requirements.Mentor and train developing Technicians and Engineers.Regular contact with vendors and service providers.Recommend laboratory and facilities equipment needs.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Able to work non-standard or extended work hours when necessary.Proficiency in Microsoft Office.Demonstrate aptitude to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.Lead and complete projects within guidelines.Demonstrate self-motivation.Work effectively in a fast-pace, team environment.Communicate effectively through written and oral means.Manage and participate in project design, development, and implementation.Understand and apply advanced electrical techniques and theories.Create and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.Demonstrate understand of quality concepts, continuous improvement, statistical techniques, and preventative/corrective actions.Demonstrate instrumentation and testing competence as required per ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.Knowledge of AC and DC electrical generation systems.Knowledge of and contribution to a continuous safe work environment.Benefits:This position includes a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; life, long-term disability, flexible spending, and health savings accounts, accrued paid time off, 8 paid Holidays, opportunity for overtime and 401(k) retirement benefits.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.
