Job summary

The United Illuminating Company in Orange, CT seeks an Associate Engineer - Meter to join the Meter Engineering team. You will perform engineering analyses, design work, and calculations, supporting meter installations and field troubleshooting.

Responsibilities include supporting the Meter Test Center operations, assisting with data discrepancies, reviewing meter requests, preparing drawings and cost estimates, and coordinating with other departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an ABET-accredited college/university with 0-2 years of experience.
  • OR
  • Associate’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an ABET-accredited college/university plus 4+ related industry experience in Distribution, Transmission, or electrical fieldwork.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operations of the Meter Test Center and Meter Engineering teams.
  • Assist Data Services in identifying and resolving ISO metering data discrepancies through field meter probing.
  • Provide technical support to field staff and contractors regarding metering issues.
  • Contribute to some phases of Substation Metering projects.
  • Specify and recommend appropriate metering equipment for various projects and assignments following UI guidebook.
  • Develop proficiency in metering codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Review metering requests from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare construction drawings, material requisitions, and cost estimates with guidance as needed.
  • Assist technicians with meter troubleshooting and updates.
  • Revise and maintain station metering prints to reflect system changes.
  • Coordinate with various departments for metering updates or installations.
  • Participate in storm duty assignments as required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology (ABET-accredited)
