Job description

We are representing a highly regarded international financial institution seeking to appoint an Associate to its expanding Energy Infrastructure and Power investment banking team in Houston.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious investment professional to work at the intersection of infrastructure investing, private equity, energy transition and strategic M&A, advising on transactions that are helping shape the future of the North American energy sector.

The team works closely with infrastructure funds, private equity investors, utilities, independent power producers and energy businesses, providing transaction advice and capital solutions across an increasingly active investment landscape.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, transaction-focused team, with meaningful responsibility across live deals and the opportunity to develop relationships with some of the most active investors and operators in the sector.

Investment & Transaction Focus

The position provides exposure to a broad range of investment and strategic advisory activity, including:

  • Mergers & Acquisitions: Evaluating and executing acquisitions, divestitures and strategic combinations involving energy and infrastructure businesses.
  • Infrastructure Investment Opportunities: Assessing transaction opportunities across power generation, regulated utilities, independent power producers and related infrastructure assets.
  • Private Equity & Infrastructure Funds: Working alongside institutional investors on acquisitions, portfolio transactions and financing strategies.
  • Capital Formation & Financing: Supporting debt and equity financing transactions for companies pursuing growth, acquisitions and capital investment.
  • Energy Transition: Developing exposure to the changing investment landscape across conventional power, renewable energy and broader electricity infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Building detailed financial models to assess corporate valuations, acquisition opportunities, financing structures and potential transaction outcomes.
  • Analyzing investment opportunities, commercial performance, industry dynamics and the factors influencing asset and enterprise values.
  • Supporting the execution of M&A transactions from initial evaluation through diligence, negotiation and completion.
  • Working closely with senior investment banking professionals and external investors to evaluate strategic alternatives and transaction structures.
  • Assessing financial statements, operating performance, capital requirements and the implications of different financing scenarios.
  • Producing investment analysis, valuation materials and transaction presentations for senior executives, investment committees and institutional clients.
  • Coordinating financial and commercial diligence, working with management teams, advisers and other transaction participants.
  • Researching emerging investment themes, market developments and acquisition opportunities across the power and utilities landscape.
  • Contributing to the development of new client relationships and identifying opportunities for future transactions.
Relevant experience could include:
  • Investment Banking, particularly within Energy, Power & Utilities, Infrastructure, Natural Resources or M&A.
  • Private Equity or Infrastructure Investing, with exposure to corporate acquisitions, energy-related investments or portfolio transactions.
  • Energy Infrastructure Developers, Utilities or Independent Power Producers, particularly within corporate development, strategic finance or investment teams.
  • Other transaction-oriented financial roles involving sophisticated modelling, valuations and investment analysis.
Experience and capabilities:
  • Relevant professional experience, with flexibility depending on background and transaction exposure.
  • Strong financial modelling, valuation and accounting knowledge.
  • A demonstrated ability to evaluate businesses, investment opportunities and financial structures.
  • Excellent commercial judgment and an interest in the broader energy and infrastructure investment landscape.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly.
  • The ability to manage multiple workstreams, work effectively in small teams and assume increasing responsibility.
  • An academic background in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Business or a related discipline.
