Job summary

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to design electrical distribution systems for utility clients and develop design packages for overhead and underground networks. You will coordinate with clients and ensure adherence to standards and schedules.

This role involves design calculations, field data collection, and coordination across urban environments, with opportunities to work remotely and travel as needed. A bachelor's degree and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial engineering.
• Experience with NESC standards, ESRI GIS, AutoCAD or MicroStation; GIS a plus.
• Proficient in MS Office; strong verbal and written communication.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license; travel may be required (reimbursed).
• Willingness to perform field and office work, outdoors when needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Review client-provided work and assess scope requirements.
• Perform engineering calculations (wood pole loading, guying, sag/tension, voltage drop, flicker).
• Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews.
• Coordinate with utilities on design requirements and ROW/easements.
• Develop large design packages for complex urban cable/conduit projects.

Location:

This position has remote-working capabilities but the preference is for candidates to be located within a commutable distance of Pittsburgh, PA metropolitan area (Western Pennsylvania) to support local utility clients as business needs require.

As an Associate Distribution Engineer / Designer, you can expect to:

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
• Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
• Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
• Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):

• Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) with 0+ years of experience.
• Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS a plus.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel Will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
• Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
• Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected
