Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.
For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it really matters. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customer performance, turn goals into real-world results and help move society forward.
As the Associate Director of Workplace Experience, you will own the full end-to-end technology experience for Johnson Controls' global workforce. You are accountable for the platforms, devices, and disciplines that shape every employee's daily interaction with JCI technology — across 150,000 managed assets, 108,000 users, and more than 1,100 sites worldwide. This is a senior leadership role with broad decision-making authority and direct ownership of three teams: End User Technology, Hardware Asset Management, and the emerging Digital Employee Experience practice. You will translate Johnson Controls' vision for the Autonomous Digital Workplace into an operating model that is proactive, data-driven, and continuously improving.
Where today's environment is largely reactive and ticket-driven, you will lead the shift to an experience measured in outcomes — time-to-productive, device health, and employee sentiment — not just uptime. You will make the investments, partnerships, and organizational decisions necessary to move from service delivery to service intelligence.
Strategic Leadership & Vision Define and own the multi-year roadmap for end user technology, hardware asset management, and digital employee experience, aligned to JCI's broader Digital Workplace Services strategy. Serve as the decision-maker for platform selection, tooling standards, and architectural direction across all devices and endpoint environments. Lead the shift from SLA to XLA — establishing experience-level metrics including time-to-productive, employee sentiment, and proactive incident avoidance as the primary scoreboard. Champion automation and AIOps within the endpoint domain, prioritizing services that self-heal, self-provision, and self-optimize. Partner with the Sr. Director and peer directors to ensure the end user environment is a reference-worthy showcase of JCI's own technology story.
Provide leadership and strategic direction to the team who runs the day-to-day operations of the EUT function — including Windows and non-Windows OS, the enterprise software delivery portal, hardware selection standards, MDM, Virtualization, Vulnerability and Patch Management, and Application Packaging. Set the multi-year vision and priorities for the EUT portfolio — defining where each discipline needs to be in 2–3 years and holding the team accountable to a roadmap that moves toward autonomous, self-managing operations. Make the investment and platform decisions: tooling selection, architectural standards, and partnerships with Information Security and other platform owners. Remove organizational blockers, secure cross-functional alignment, and ensure the team has the resources, clarity, and support to execute.
Direct the HAM team across the full device lifecycle — procurement, provisioning, tracking, reclamation, and disposal — across a $25M+ annual spend portfolio covering 150,000+ assets. Drive CMDB and Intune accuracy as a strategic asset: close the gap between systems of record and ground truth so that every downstream automation and AI decision is built on reliable data. Build and maintain a rolling 24-month refresh forecast by region, enabling proactive budget planning and eliminating unplanned lifecycle crises. Drive reclamation discipline across global offboarding and establish procurement rigor to ensure device availability at a moment's notice.
Incubate the DEX team from the ground up — defining its charter, tooling selection, success metrics, and the business case for executive investment. Design an architecture that converges asset, configuration, and experience data into a single model, enabling proactive identification and remediation of friction before employees notice it. Establish experience-level baselines and targets for the end user environment; build the reporting capability to track and communicate progress to executive leadership. Champion agentic AI and AIOps adoption that enables autonomous remediation and reduces the volume of issues requiring human intervention.
Own the Workplace Experience budget including $25M+ in hardware spend; lead vendor relationships for OEMs, endpoint platforms, and DEX tooling, governing performance and negotiating contracts. Lead, coach, and develop a multi-layer organization including the team leads across EUT, HAM, and DEX — building a team that designs automation, not just operates it. Set clear performance expectations tied to experience metrics, operational efficiency, and strategic delivery; foster a culture where fewer things are prioritized and more are finished completely.
12+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including at least 5 years managing managers and leading large-scale end user technology or digital workplace programs at enterprise scale. Deep expertise across endpoint disciplines: OS lifecycle (Windows and macOS), MDM, patch and vulnerability management, application packaging, and virtualization. Demonstrated experience overseeing hardware asset management including device lifecycle, CMDB accuracy, procurement forecasting, and reclamation in a large enterprise (50,000+ devices strongly preferred). Experience building or making the business case for a Digital Employee Experience (DEX) function, including endpoint telemetry, experience measurement, and proactive remediation architectures. Financial acumen to manage a $25M+ annual hardware budget including multi-year capital planning, vendor negotiations, and ROI-based investment decisions. Proven ability to lead organizational change — moving teams from reactive to proactive, building new capabilities, and raising performance standards with care and accountability. Working knowledge of AIOps, autonomous endpoint management, and XLA frameworks; ability to translate these into practical roadmaps and operating disciplines. Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate complex technology investments in clear, business-relevant terms to senior leadership. Experience in a global, matrixed organization; familiarity with ServiceNow and CMDB as a strategic data spine, not just a ticketing system.
