Job summary

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks an Associate Director for Student Conduct & Community Standards to lead investigations and the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.

The role oversees investigations of alleged violations, engages with students and witnesses, and helps guide educational outcomes. Strong supervision, policy interpretation, and confidentiality are essential in this role.

Reporting to the Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards, the Associate Director, Student Conduct & Community Standards is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.

The Associate Director, Student Conduct & Community Standards will oversee investigations related to alleged violations of the standards of academic integrity and responsible conduct for all University of Nebraska – Lincoln students.

This includes:

• Provide prompt, equitable, and impartial investigations into allegations regarding violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
• Meet with students who have allegedly violated the Student Code of Conduct; witnesses, complainants, and/or victims to gather information; and determine educational outcomes.
• Prepare formal, written findings, at the conclusion of investigations.
• Participate in presenting information in University Conduct Board Hearings.
• Coordinate assessment efforts in the office including tactics to demonstrate and measure student learning.

Additional Responsibilities

• Supervise, evaluate, and train Student Conduct & Community Standards full-time professional and administrative staff.
• Manages the administration of the University Conduct Board and the Investigation Team through recruitment and training of volunteer members.
• Oversees departmental policies and procedures, providing a leadership role with staff to ensure compliance regarding students’ rights related to various regulations impacting the work of the office such as the Clery Act, the First Amendment, FERPA , Title IX, VAWA , and other legislation.
• Engage in outreach and education for students/student organizations, faculty, and staff.
• Responsible for keeping current in the field of student conduct by participating in conferences, workshops, and professional training.

The Associate Director may serve in the absence of the Director.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education, criminal justice, psychology, policy and law, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Investigatory experience (minimum of 3 years) including conducting interviews, policy interpretation, and data gathering and analysis, including experience with investigations that could result in suspension and expulsion. Experience with due process procedures and educational development principles pertaining to college students. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies, both domestic and international, to support an inclusive campus environment. Ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with staff at all levels at the University. Knowledge of student conduct databases. Experience working with University Conduct Boards. Progressive experience, including supervision of staff. Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information. Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques. Skill in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex information. Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Increased responsibility within student conduct is preferred. Advanced investigatory experience (5 years or more) including conducting interviews, policy interpretation, data gathering and analysis, and writing investigative reports. Experience in recruiting students, faculty, and staff to participate in conduct boards or investigations. Knowledge of developing new processes within a database system and experience with the student conduct database (i.e. Maxient). Professional experience conducting investigations in a university setting with student organizations. Experience teaching or providing education or training to groups including faculty, staff, students, or student organizations. Knowledge or experience with restorative practices, mediation, or alternative dispute resolution.

Posted Salary

$75,000/yr minimum
