The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) is committed to enhancing the quality, safety, reliability, and accountability of clinical care provided to patients. The Associate Director develops strategic and operational plans for an integrated provider quality and peer review program that supports excellence in professional practice and helps OSUWMC remain innovative and world renowned in its approaches to quality and patient safety. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, the Associate Director provides strategic and operational leadership for provider quality review and clinical accountability across the health system. This position collaborates with physician leaders, department chairs, division chiefs, the Medical Staff Office, credentialing professionals, quality and patient safety leaders, nursing leadership, clinical documentation integrity, coding, risk management, and other multidisciplinary stakeholders. The position designs, standardizes, and maintains programs for Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE), Peer Review, Mortality Review, Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) review, and other practitioner quality oversight activities in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, organizational policies, accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable privilege and confidentiality protections. The position analyzes practitioner and program-level trends using internal and external comparative clinical data and benchmarking; translates review findings into actionable improvement plans; monitors effectiveness; and validates sustained improvement over time. This position helps guide the strategy necessary to establish and maintain OSUWMC as a top-tier academic medical center recognized for quality, safety, professional practice excellence, and patient outcomes.
Directs the overall provider quality and peer review infrastructure while ensuring standardized, timely, objective, fair, confidential, and effective review processes aligned with organizational priorities and Medical Staff governance. Provides operational leadership for OPPE, FPPE, Peer Review, Mortality Review, PSI review, provider quality concern evaluation, and related practitioner performance monitoring. Leads the development and interpretation of provider quality metrics, scorecards, and dashboards and supports physician leaders in identifying concerns, determining opportunities for improvement, establishing action plans, and evaluating sustained results. Serves as a trusted advisor to physician executives, department and division leaders, Medical Staff leadership, quality committees, and executive leadership on provider quality trends, review findings, and clinical accountability. Proactively leads an engagement strategy to ensure provider quality information is consistently delivered in meaningful and adaptable ways to Medical Staff leadership, departments and divisions, service lines, dyads/triads, and organizational governance bodies. Oversees the development of provider quality reporting and practitioner performance dashboards and fosters collaborative relationships across the OSUWMC to advance quality, safety, accountability, and professional practice excellence.
