Job description

Kent Place School, an independent, K-12, all-girls day school in Summit, NJ, seeks an innovative and proactive Associate Director of the Ethics Institute to partner with the Director in building, implementing, and advancing groundbreaking ethics programming.

Founded in 2007, the Ethics Institute at Kent Place School (EIKPS) is a first-of-its-kind program at the primary and secondary school levels. Its mission is to promote the process and practice of ethical thinking and ethical decision-making to students, parents, faculty, and staff. EIKPS helps to prepare students to be empathic citizens and the most effective leaders of tomorrow through a variety of programs, initiatives, workshops, and classes. Partnerships with institutions such as Georgetown University, Montclair State University, and Atlantic Health Systems enhance EIKPS's programs, which include The Bioethics Project, Ethics and Economics, and Ethics in Action.

The Associate Director of the Ethics Institute is a full-time, 12-month position that serves as a primary thought leader and facilitator across the community, driving ethics initiatives, workshops, and strategic partnerships both within Kent Place School and nationally at the primary and secondary school levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum & Program Leadership: Teach ethics courses and lead/support faculty in integrating ethics into existing coursework. Manage the creation, development, and integration of the ethics curriculum across all school divisions in collaboration with academic leaders. Oversee student publications, moderate co-curricular initiatives (such as student ethics podcasts and discussion groups), and direct summer ethics programs.
  • Event & External Programming: Coordinate logistics and execution for signature events, including regional and national Middle School Ethics Bowls, host workshops, and deliver professional development for external organizations.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Thought Leadership: Expand the reach and reputation of the Ethics Institute by cultivating new institutional partnerships, presenting at national conferences, and producing original blogs, newsletters, and case studies.
  • Community Engagement: Serve on internal advisory boards, partner with parent liaisons to deliver community programming, and actively participate in school life while upholding Kent Place's mission and strategic plan.
Key Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: Master's degree required (with coursework or background in ethics, philosophy, or a related field) and a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Academic & K-12 Expertise: Deep understanding of K-12 school communities, curriculum development, and an entrepreneurial approach to expanding educational initiatives.
  • Communication & Public Speaking: Exceptional writing, presentation, and social media skills with a proven ability to engage students, faculty, and national conference audiences.
  • Organization & Collaboration: Strong project management skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to manage complex multi-stakeholder programs and deadlines.
