Job summary

The City of Sanford is seeking a qualified civil engineer for public works and construction projects. The position requires thorough knowledge of engineering theory, ability to read and interpret design drawings, budgeting and reporting, and supervisory experience.

Applicants should hold a degree in engineering or related field, possess a valid NC driver’s license, and preferably be licensed as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina. The City is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

We are looking for a detailed individual who possesses thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of engineering and construction as applied to the development and construction of public works projects, reading and interpreting internal and external design drawings and specifications, in the use of standard office equipment and software, and in preparing budgets; comprehensive knowledge in preparing various documents, correspondence and technical reports; general knowledge in the use of standard accounting software; some knowledge in the use of AutoCAD and ArcGIS software; ability to communicate ideas effectively, orally and in writing, make arithmetic computations, compute rates, ratios and percentages, understand and apply government accounting practices in maintenance of financial records, establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, associates, contractors and the general public.

Special Requirements

The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, construction management or related field and extensive experience in professional civil engineering or construction work including supervisory experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license upon hire. Prefer registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina upon hire.
