Job summary

Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee, WI, seeks an Associate Director of Advising to provide daily operational direction to Academic Advisors and New Student Advisors. You will supervise staff, develop policies, and coordinate career partnerships while aligning advising initiatives with institutional goals.

You will collaborate with academic leadership and external partners, manage caseload standards, and contribute to student success programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required
• Master's degree in Advising, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of professional academic, career, or first-year advising experience in higher education
• Knowledge of academic advising principles and practices

Responsibilities

• Provide daily operational direction to advising staff across Academic Advisor and New Student Advisor functions
• Directly supervise Academic Advisors and New Student Advisors, including hiring, orienting, training, coaching, evaluating
• Collaborate with other administrative and academic departments to improve advising processes
• Advise program students and serve as back-up for advising staff
• Develop strategic initiatives to align advising strategy with operations
• Participate in campus-wide advising community and provide input to leadership
• Maintain expertise with advising curriculum and assist with policy/curriculum exceptions
• Communicate advising goals clearly to colleagues and broader audiences
• Oversee advising communications to students
• Identify technical problems and work toward resolutions
• Support the Dean in budget decisions, serving as backup for approvals
• New Student Advising supervision: establish caseload standards, design early alert and warm handoff protocols, escalate complex cases
