Overview

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of the first-year and transfer classes each year for the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts. Tufts Admissions is charged with meeting enrollment goals across schools and programs.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to a Director, the Associate Director of Admissions, Selection will be an experienced member of the undergraduate admissions team, responsible for recruiting and selecting students and for fulfilling the enrollment objectives set by the University. The Associate Director of Admissions, Selection will be responsible for the following:

  • Portfolio oversight: long-term management of complex projects, delegation of tasks, management of staff members and student workers, creation and presentation of training materials, data analysis and assessment, etc. Projects specific to this portfolio include, but are not limited to:
    • Collaboratively develop and implement each cycle’s application evaluation process
    • Management of undergraduate first-year and transfer application review
    • Coordination of application cycle operations, calendars, and process improvements
    • Development and facilitation of staff reader training
    • Participation in the undergraduate application review and selection processes, including evaluation of applications in alignment with training protocols, and participation in selection committees. May be asked to chair committees as appropriate
    • Serve as an on-campus point-of-contact for visitors. Communicate with students, families, school/organization counselors, and the general public via in-person conversations, virtual formats, email, and phone
    • Collaborate with campus partners, including the Student Services Technology Team, regarding data and project-based work
    • Coordinate with external partners such as College Board, Scoir, Common Application, and Coalition for College to support portfolio and office-wide initiatives
    • Conduct virtual and in-person information sessions and workshops for a variety of audiences, both on-campus and off-campus
    • As requested by the Dean and/or Director, create, facilitate, or contribute to office training initiatives for admissions officers and/or administrative staff
    • Directly supervise 1–4 professional staff members and serve as a member of the Management Team
    • Complete other projects and duties as assigned
Travel Requirements

This position involves travel throughout the year, which may include overnight stays. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required and the willingness and ability to drive to various locations using a rental vehicle. Candidates must have a driving record that meets the standards of rental car agencies.

Work Environment

While our office functions in a hybrid modality, the Associate Director can expect a frequent campus presence.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in selective admissions, college counseling, or a related field
  • Experience with application evaluation, including individual or committee-based evaluation
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills, preferably in a fast-paced, timeline-driven environment
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with CRM management software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Comfort traveling independently and as part of a group
  • Valid U.S. drivers’ license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior supervisory experience of either professional or student staff
  • Experience with leading and/or facilitating staff development initiatives
  • Experience with highly selective application evaluation, including individual or committee-based evaluation
  • Experience with Technologies Slate
  • Fluency in a second language
Pay Range

Minimum $65,900.00, Midpoint $82,300.00, Maximum $98,800.00. Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
