Associate Director for Community Activation

About the Department

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in community-based organizations to alleviate poverty and foster community growth. The Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) within DYCD focuses on reducing violence, enhancing public safety, and empowering communities through innovative programs, partnerships, and community engagement.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the City’s Crisis Management System (CMS), a network deploying community violence prevention models.
  • Oversee daily operations of violence prevention services, ensuring alignment with best practices and community needs.
  • Manage contracts, oversee program staff, and ensure program quality and compliance.
  • Develop and implement community-based violence prevention initiatives addressing social determinants of violence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profits, advocates, and community members.
  • Coordinate with city departments to align violence prevention efforts with broader public safety goals.
  • Represent the Office at public forums and prepare reports on program outcomes and community impact.
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
Additional Information

Employees may be eligible for federal and state loan forgiveness programs. NYC residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
