Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health System seeks a Cytogeneticist/Molecular Geneticist to serve as Associate Director of the Cytogenetics Laboratory and Associate Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories within the Department of Pathology.

The ideal candidate has an MD or PhD with ABMGG certification, strong leadership, and expertise in clinical cytogenetics, molecular genetics, and microarray analysis; faculty appointment available.

Qualifications

• MD and/or PhD degree required.
• ABMGG certification or eligibility in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, or Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics dual boards.
• Knowledge of regulatory issues in cytogenetics and molecular genetics.
• Ability to foster an environment of respect and civility among faculty, staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality clinical genetic and genomic testing services and participate in daily testing reviews with lab directors.
• Collaborate with Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics Directors to resolve testing issues and develop new tests.
• Develop, validate, and implement clinical testing procedures.
• Communicate diagnostic results clearly to faculty and clinicians.
• Participate in tumor boards, institutional and national committees as needed.
• Supervise residents and contribute to education of fellows and students.
• Engage in scholarly activity: publications, national meetings, and professional organizations.
