Job summary

Samuel Merritt University seeks an Associate Director of Safety & Security to lead Security Operations, Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety, and Emergency Management. You will develop policies, oversee training, manage vendor relations, and coordinate with local and state partners to safeguard campus life and operations.

The role requires 3–5 years of security leadership in an educational setting, a valid CA driver’s license, and a Bachelor's degree; CPP is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
• 3–5 years of security management experience, preferably in an educational or campus setting.
• Valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage security policies, protocols and procedures in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate risks and enhance campus safety.
• Organize regular training sessions and drills for security staff and the university community.
• Manage site security, alarm monitoring and other safety service vendors.
• Coordinate access control, surveillance cameras and emergency notification systems with Facilities and IT.
• Investigate security incidents and prepare reports for administration and regulatory bodies.
• Support risk management, insurance program administration and safety policy development.
• Develop and maintain EH&S programs and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead Emergency Response Team and coordinate during campus emergencies.
