Job summary

Samuel Merritt University is seeking an Associate Director of Safety & Security to lead security operations, risk management, environmental health and safety, and emergency management. The role reports to the Director of Risk Management, Safety & Security and collaborates with facilities, IT, and campus stakeholders to safeguard lives and property on the Oakland campus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• 3–5 years security management experience, preferably in an educational setting.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• CPP certification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage security policies, protocols and procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
• Organize training sessions and drills for security staff and campus community.
• Manage site security, alarm monitoring and vendors.
• Coordinate access control, surveillance and emergency notification systems.
• Investigate security incidents and prepare reports for administration.
• Maintain records and reporting for regulatory bodies (e.g., Clery).
