Job summary

Johns Hopkins University seeks an Associate Director of Alumni Career Engagement to launch a new alumni career engagement function. The role supports nine Johns Hopkins schools, developing career programs, mentoring, networking, and data-informed strategies for alumni across career stages.

You will report to the Senior Associate Director of Alumni Career Engagement, lead programs and events, manage communications, and build relationships with alumni to advance university goals.

Job description

The Associate Director of Alumni Career Engagement will help launch a new alumni career engagement function within Johns Hopkins University's central Office of Alumni Relations in response to alumni survey findings that identified career and professional development as a top priority among alumni ages 50 and under. Serving alumni across all nine Johns Hopkins schools, this position will help unlock the power of the university's global alumni network by developing career-focused programs, mentoring initiatives, networking opportunities, and data-informed strategies that strengthen lifelong professional connections and deliver measurable value to alumni at every career stage.

The Associate Director of Alumni Career Engagement will develop, plan, and execute alumni programs and events for alumni for Central Alumni Relations or a Development Office (DOFF) in Development and Alumni Relations for the Johns Hopkins Institutions. The Alumni Relations Officer will lead events, manage communications, and build relationships with alumni to support the Institution’s goals and objectives.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage alumni through events, programs, communications, and volunteer activities.
  • Implement strategic programs that foster relationships between alumni and JHU, and other students and alumni.
  • Lead the planning of medium to large-scale events and initiatives. Serve as the point of contact for alumni volunteers and/or event speakers.
  • Lead programs and committees. Prepare colleagues, faculty, staff, or alumni for participation in events.
  • Represent the DOFF and Johns Hopkins University at a variety of functions.
  • Identify, recruit, train, steward, and recognize alumni volunteers.
  • Engage alumni groups and organizations for support of efforts, potential programs, and collaboration opportunities. Identify areas for growth and development.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure accurate alumni records and maintenance in the DAR CRM.
  • Analyze alumni data, generate reports, and provide recommendations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on alumni programs, events, and activities.
  • Create, develop, and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, faculty, volunteers, guests, and colleagues.
  • Lead special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
In Addition To The Duties Described Above
  • Report to the Senior Associate Director of Alumni Career Engagement as part of the Office of Alumni Relations' 34-person central team, collaborating across university partners and all nine Johns Hopkins schools.
  • Serve as the team's market intelligence and customer insights specialist by analyzing alumni trends, workforce data, survey results, CRM data, and benchmarking to identify emerging career needs and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Leverage AI, analytics, and other emerging technologies to better understand alumni career pathways, identify engagement opportunities, personalize outreach, and generate actionable recommendations.
  • Plan and facilitate virtual and in-person networking events, mentoring programs, industry roundtables, career conversations, and professional development workshops that foster meaningful alumni connections.
  • Build partnerships with campus offices, employers, alumni volunteers, affinity groups, and external organizations to expand career resources while continuously assessing, refining, and innovating career engagement offerings based on alumni feedback and measurable outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional years of directly related development and alumni relations experience.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in alumni relations, career services, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination and partnership building.
On-call Or Non-standard Work Hour Requirements
  • Ability to travel for work 1-2 nights per month, and ability to work occasional weekends and evenings as necessary.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
