Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking an Associate Designer in Fort Walton Beach, FL. The role involves mechanical design work using CAD systems, creating parts and assemblies, and documenting engineering changes.

Responsibilities

  • Create routine mechanical designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or systems using CAD; compile Bills of Materials; assist in prototype assembly.
  • Draw multiple views; depict relationships of components; specify dimensions, tolerances, materials; prepare BOMs and specifications; process Engineering Change Orders; ensure quality and cost parameters.
  • Ensure drawing quality and functionality by assisting prototype creation, testing, and analysis; perform calculations such as strength of materials and stresses; evaluate proposed changes for fit and interference.
  • Contribute to team efforts by performing related tasks in a cooperative manner.
  • Support and reinforce the mission, values and culture of the organization.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by consulting specialists and attending workshops; networking; pursuing professional development.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support the department by creating routine mechanical design for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or systems configurations using CAD systems; compile Bills of Materials; assist in the assembly of prototypes
  • Draw multiple views; depict relationship of component and parts; identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials; prepare bills of material and specifications; create documentation required and processing Engineering Change Orders; ensure adherence to designated quality and cost parameters; use CAD systems
  • Ensure quality of drawings and functionality of equipment by: assisting in the building/acquiring of prototypes; testing and analyzing results; making various calculations, such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses, frequently using charts and tables; analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems; recommending possible solutions or alternate construction; modifying drawings as required; conferring with engineers to resolve issues; adhering to Company policies and procedures
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Maintain technical knowledge by: conferring with technical specialists and suppliers; attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
