Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Piping Associate Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will apply basic design and design engineering principles to support the Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects. Your contributions will enhance Fluor’s competitiveness in the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Select piping materials required, evaluate service life and suitability.
  • Create piping material specifications.
  • Review materials bid tabulations and substitutions for technical acceptability.
  • Prepare piping purchase descriptions for valves, pipes, fittings, flanges, and other special piping components.
  • Perform pipe wall thickness calculations (pressure & vacuum) and make preliminary selections.
  • Review Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) for proper valving and conformance to specifications.
  • Assist in the development of pressure test P&ID as required.
  • Assist in the identification and selection of special piping components.
  • Assign line numbers and line class specifications, and update master P&ID and Piping Line List.
  • Create Piping Line List.
  • Take the lead on exciting small projects.
  • Mentor and train others as required.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple projects and tasks effectively, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Travel as needed to attend to business-related matters.
  • Meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Job Requirements
  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and two (2) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Engineer-in-Training achievement status accomplished
  • Acquired knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
  • Excellent computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Intermediate knowledge of piping components, commercial availability, and cost of materials.
  • Ability to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and other discipline drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of piping engineering software (e.g., Red Bag, Mat Man, Auto Pipe).
  • Understanding of stress/strain theories as applied to the strength of materials.
  • Familiarity with requirements outlined in piping flexibility, support elements, expansion joints, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Salary Range

68,000 to 118,000

Market Rate

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
