Job summary

Middlebury College in Vermont is seeking the Associate Dean of Students for Student Success to lead the Center for Student Success, aligning services for retention, wellbeing, and achievement. The role reports to the Dean of Students and serves as deputy as needed.

The successful candidate will oversee staff, collaborate with faculty and campus partners, and use data to assess program impact while ensuring timely, coordinated support for students facing barriers.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or closely related field.
• Experience in case management, academic advising, care coordination or crisis response in higher education.
• Significant experience supervising staff and developing teams.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.
• Proven leadership with ability to build teams, manage change and communicate effectively.
• Excellent judgment and discretion with sensitive matters.
• Experience using data to guide decisions and assess program impact.
• 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, including supervisory roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide vision, direction, leadership, and supervision for the Center for Student Success.
• Direct supervision of four Assistant Deans and the Center's Operations Manager.
• Assess Center policies, processes, and programs to align with institutional goals.
• Serve as liaison between Middlebury and the Wily Foundation; supervise related roles.
• Represent the Center on Care Team, Returns Committee, and other groups.
• Lead during campus emergencies and be part of Administrator on Call rotation.
• Guide staff on case documentation and records management practices.
• Manage a caseload of students with diverse academic and personal challenges.
• Collaborate with faculty, residential life, and student-facing departments for seamless support.
