Job summary

Farmers Group Inc. is seeking an Associate Data Scientist to apply analytics and modeling techniques to improve business outcomes. You will work with customer data and behavioral analytics under guidance from senior data scientists.

Responsibilities include implementing basic models, assisting with ETL, preparing presentations, and collaborating with analytics and IT teams to deploy models. The role supports learning and growth in data science with a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Masters preferred in data science or related field.
• 0-1 years of related experience required.
• Data analytics or internship preferred.
• Basic proficiency with large-scale data using open-source cloud-enabled languages.
• Ability to assist data extraction, manipulation, and design with guidance.
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, SAS, R, Snowflake and cloud services (AWS).
• Experience with data visualization tools, e.g., Tableau or Power BI.
• Understanding of basic statistical modeling concepts and ML/AI deployment basics.

Job Summary

Utilizes basic knowledge to apply analytics and modeling techniques to improve business results. Performs routine assignments and leverages customer information and behavioral data to influence strategic business decisions while using analytics, multi-variate models, machine learning and data mining technologies. The role actively learns about business operations and best practices in data science with guidance from more senior roles.

• Utilizes basic knowledge of programing, ETL and modeling methods to execute projects and assists the team through examples of good technical skills.
• Executes on low- complexity business challenges involving data science.
• Succeeds in projects by utilizing a data science vision for project success, and accomplishes successfully within prescribed timelines.
• Executes on routine projects with a sense of urgency.
• Contributes to development of presentations.
• Occasionally communicates complex technical material understandable to non-technical associates.
• Works with analytics and IT teams to deploy models/rules.

Education & Career Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Masters degree preferred in data science, statistics, mathematics, business analytics, or related.
• 0-1 years of related experience required.
• Data analytics or similar internship preferred.
• Basic proficiency working on large-scale structured and unstructured multidimensional data using conceptual knowledge of open-source cloud-enabled analytical programming languages.
• Developing ability to consult on data extraction, data manipulation and data design for statistical, modeling and monitoring needs with guidance.
• Basic knowledge of data analysis, manipulation tools (SQL, Python, SAS, R, and/or Snowflake) and cloud computing services (AWS).
• Familiarity with data visualization tools (example, Tableau, Power BI).
• Able to apply conceptual knowledge of explanatory, diagnostic, and inferential techniques such as experimental design, hypothesis testing, clustering analysis, time series and other statistical modeling algorithms.
• Basic proficiency in predictive and prescriptive modeling using advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques.
• Conceptual knowledge of ML/AI model deployment best practices.
• Able to adapt quickly to new technologies.
• Conceptual knowledge of coding standards and version control (Git).
• Conceptual knowledge of data ethics and data privacy.

Physical Actions

Job is performed in-person at a Farmers office or virtually at an approved alternative work location. The physical work environment is indoors and climate-controlled with adequate lighting and ventilation. Normal and customary distractions include background noise produced by office equipment and chatter among people, as well as interruptions. Frequently sits for prolonged periods of time, up to a full shift. Occasionally moves about the workplace including, navigating stairs, ramps, and level or uneven surfaces.
