Job summary

Wizards of the Coast in Renton, WA seeks an Associate Game Designer with a passion for Dungeons & Dragons and game design. Youll contribute to mechanical and narrative design, write engaging content, and collaborate across teams to craft memorable experiences. Hybrid in-office schedule Tue–Thu, with remote-friendly options as applicable.

Youll work on monsters, magic items, and spells, balancing gameplay and storytelling while learning from senior designers in a supportive, creative environment.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in tabletop game design (narrative and rules)
• Ability to translate designs into final implementation
• Comfort with shared doc systems (Confluence) and version-controlled design environments
• Strong creative writing, storytelling, and technical design skills
• Familiarity with D&D and 5e rules
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Deep understanding of D&D game mechanics, balance, and modular design
• Strong editing and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop portions of D&D products (monsters, items, spells) with guidance from leads
• Incorporate player feedback to craft engaging content
• Assist in preparing products for publication
• Contribute to design docs and research
• Review material for balance, clarity, consistency, and player enjoyment
• Brainstorm themes, stories, encounters, and game design elements for narrative experiences
• Participate in cross-functional team discussions, playtests, and meetings
