Job summary

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a Crisis Clinician to join the Walk-In Clinic at resolve Crisis Services. The role requires evaluating crises, providing counseling, and coordinating referrals in a 24/7 environment to support individuals in self-identified crisis.

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work, CPR, CCMC certification (or willingness to obtain), and valid driver’s license with required clearances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work with transcripts attached.
• Current CPR certification.
• Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) certification or willingness to obtain.
• Driver's license.
• Act 31/Act 33/Act 34 clearances; FBI clearance with renewal; OAPSA.

Responsibilities

• Complete Crisis Clinician orientation and training.
• Manage shift caseloads under supervision.
• Develop skills in assessment, de-escalation, documentation, and motivational interviewing.
• Use Electronic Medical Records for information and documentation.
• Provide person-centered, strength-based counseling to promote stability.
• Work independently and efficiently in crisis settings.
• Coordinate referrals and collaborate on disposition planning.
• Advocate for appropriate program admissions (Crisis Residential, Walk-In).
• Conduct face-to-face crisis assessments and respond to support calls.
• Handle crisis situations using positive, effective strategies.
• Meet documentation standards and complete required paperwork.
• Participate in trainings, staff meetings, and case reviews.
• Support therapeutic milieu and ensure safety.

All candidates must be able to work varying shifts: daylight, evening, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Crisis Clinician levels from Associate, Clin I and Clin II will be considered for this role. The title and pay rate for these positions may vary depending on education level and years of experience.

Crisis Clinicians are Sign on Bonus eligible!

$3,500 with a 2 year commitment

$5,000 with a 3 year commitment

This position is eligible for the Behavioral Health Fellows Program - an initiative sponsored by Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) in partnership with Community Care Behavioral Health and Jewish Healthcare Foundation. Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in human services and/or relevant mental health experience. (Preferred other fields of study include: Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, Sociology, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Theology, Nursing, Counseling/Guidance, Education)
• ATTENTION: A COPY OF YOUR BACHELOR’S OR MASTER'S TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION.
• Consistent ability to respond calmly and effectively, using good clinical judgment to both psychiatric and medical emergencies.
