Job description

The Associate Counsel supports the Office of General Counsel's licensing, compliance, and enforcement efforts within the Office of Cannabis Management. Reporting to a Deputy Counsel, the position involves legal support for assigned portfolios, drafting legislation and regulations, supervising attorneys and legal assistants, and representing OCM in administrative hearings. The role is part-time (20-25 hours per week) and includes supervisory responsibilities and legal advisory functions across cannabis licensing and compliance matters.

Key qualifications:

• Admission to and membership in good standing of the New York State Bar
• Four years of subsequent professional legal experience following bar admission
• Experience with legal research, drafting legislation and regulations, and administrative hearing representation
• Supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to supervise attorneys and legal assistants
• Valid New York State Driver's License or demonstrated capacity to meet transportation needs
