Job summary

The Associate Counsel reports to a Deputy Counsel and provides legal support to New York's Office of Cannabis Management's licensing, compliance, and enforcement efforts. Responsibilities include drafting legislation and regulations, representing the agency in administrative hearings, conducting legal research, and supervising attorneys and legal assistants.

The role is part-time (20-25 hours per week) based in Buffalo and allows telecommuting with approval.

Qualifications

  • Bar admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
  • At least four years of professional legal experience.
  • Valid New York driver's license or ability to meet transportation needs.
  • Experience with cannabis law or willingness to learn.
  • Strong legal research, writing and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities

  • Draft legislation and regulations for the Cannabis Office.
  • Represent the agency in administrative hearings.
  • Conduct legal research to support enforcement and compliance.
