Job summary

Travelers is seeking a Claims Counsel to manage Accountants Professional Liability (APL) and Real Estate Professional Liability (RPL) claims and litigation for diverse professionals. The role involves advising underwriting and non-attorney claim colleagues, with active participation in BSI claim initiatives.

You will handle professional negligence and related issues, coordinate with outside counsel, and travel as needed to mediations, conferences, and trials in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of relevant legal or claim handling experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to negotiate terms and conditions within designated authority.
• Time management with multiple priorities and attention to detail.
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships.

Responsibilities

• Follow operational policies to analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims with supervision.
• Prepare and present reports reflecting loss development and exposure.
• Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel with litigation plans and budgets.
• Communicate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Travel to mediations, settlements, conferences, and depositions.
• Develop the ability to identify recovery opportunities and coordinate efforts.
• Refine policy interpretation and drafting coverage opinions with case law.
• Negotiate settlements and review releases and confidentiality provisions.
• Support underwriting marketing through broker visits and white papers.
• Monitor market conditions and draft reference materials for underwriting and claims.
