Job summary

Illinois Defense Counsel seeks an Associate Corporate Counsel to support our network of surgical practices. The role offers a broad in-house, contracts-and-transactions focus and the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership, physicians, and operations. On-site for 90 days with potential hybrid scheduling thereafter.

The ideal candidate will handle employment, vendor, lease, and other contracts, provide practical legal guidance, and help modernize processes through legal tech. A J.D.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active bar membership required (Florida preferred).
• 2–4 years of legal experience, transactional focus.
• Healthcare, real estate, or employment law experience a plus.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain legal concepts clearly.
• Interest in legal tech and workflow automation.
• Familiarity with healthcare regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute) helpful but not required.
• Drug and background screen required.

• Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, including employment agreements, vendor agreements, lease agreements, and other healthcare-related agreements
• Advise business teams on contractual matters and general business issues
• Collaborate with leadership, physicians, and operational teams to provide practical legal guidance
• Support the implementation of contract management and other legal technology solutions
• Draft and maintain template agreements and standard contract language
• Establish and update policies and procedures aligned with compliance standards and best practices
• Educate internal stakeholders on contract processes, negotiation considerations, and legal risk management
• Help drive consistency, efficiency, and innovation within legal operations

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel to join our legal team and support our network of surgical practices. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a transactional attorney to build a broad in-house skill set while working closely with executive leadership, physicians, and operational teams. This position will be on-site the first 90 days and a hybrid schedule may be considered after the introductory period.

The position reports directly to the Corporate Counsel and collaborates regularly with the Chief Executive Officer and Physician President. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the organization’s legal needs while helping advance initiatives that improve patient care and operational excellence across our practices.

What You Will Do:

What We're Looking For:

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
• Active bar membership required (Florida preferred)

• Experience in private practice or in-house environments supporting healthcare, real estate, or employment law matters is a plus
• Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders
• Interest in improving legal processes through legal technology and workflow automation
• Exposure to healthcare regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute) is helpful but not required
