Job summary

Verus Associates is seeking an Associate Automation / Controls Engineer to join our Concord, CA team. You will develop SCADA, HMI, and PLC programs under senior guidance, assist in panel design, and help document system specifications and sequences of operations.

The role emphasizes field commissioning, on-site support, and collaboration with project managers. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or CS and a willingness to travel are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics) or Computer Science from an accredited university.
• 0–2 years of experience; internships, senior design projects, or technical co-ops valued.
• Experience with PLC programming and HMI/SCADA development preferred.
• Digital literacy and basic networking knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to client sites for commissioning and support.

Responsibilities

• Program SCADA, HMI, and PLC programs based on defined control strategies.
• Design control panels and specify industrial components.
• Develop system specifications, sequences of operations, and full project lifecycle documentation.
• Participate in field commissioning and provide on-site field support.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and discipline leads to ensure programming efforts stay on track.
• Contribute in design review meetings and interface with clients regarding project status.
• Engage in mentorship and training to master new platforms and engineering standards.
