Job summary

Olsson is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician to perform geotechnical materials testing, construction observation, and inspections on diverse projects. You will collect samples from sites, run tests, document results, and communicate findings to project managers and field staff.

This role involves traveling to project locations in Southern Florida, Central Alabama, and Indiana, onboarding at the closest Olsson office, and maintaining alertness on site.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field preferred, not required.
  • EIT or ICC certification preferred, not required.
  • ACI Grade I and Nuclear Gauge certifications preferred, not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with data entry abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collect construction materials samples from sites and perform tests and inspections.
  • Document findings and communicate results to project managers and field staff.
  • Assist in ensuring safety and integrity of construction projects.
  • Travel to project locations and work onsite daily as assigned.

Job Description

As a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician at Olsson, you'll be trained to perform geotechnical materials testing, construction observation, and inspections for diverse projects.Your responsibilities will include collecting construction materials samples from construction sites and perform tests and inspections to assess the properties and integrity of those materials, using specialized equipment and following established procedures and standards. You will document your findings and communicate results to project managers, field staff, and contractors, facilitating informed decision-making and maintaining the integrity and safety of construction projects. You will work in all types of terrain and weather conditions.

Project Locations & Travel Requirements:

There are currently project opportunities available in Southern Florida, Central Alabama, and Indiana. Candidates should be comfortable traveling and working onsite at assigned project locations on a daily basis. New hires will complete onboarding and training through the Olsson office closest to their assigned project site. Candidates who are interested in opportunities outside of their home state and are not located near the project location may be eligible for a travel stipend to help offset lodging and travel expenses during the duration of the project assignment. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in the field, supporting projects in various locations, and gaining experience across multiple markets and project environments.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving history.

  • Associate or bachelor's degree from a technical or four-year school in either civil engineering, construction, or a related field, preferred not required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or International Code Council (ICC) certified, preferred, not required.
  • ACI Grade I and Nuclear Gauge certifications, preferred not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) with the ability to accurately complete online forms, documents, and data entry tasks.
