Job summary

Chapman University seeks an Associate Coach for Swim & Dive to support the NCAA Division III program on campus. You will coach student-athletes, assist with recruiting, and manage aspects of program operations, travel, and equipment under the Head Coach.

Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and travel is required. Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of college coaching experience, strong leadership, and a proven ability to recruit and develop student-athletes while maintaining NCAA and SCIAC

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of coaching experience with assigned sport(s).
  • Technical expertise in swimming & diving coaching at the college level.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills for working with students and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to recruit, motivate, develop, and retain student-athletes per NCAA DIII.
  • Strong ability to interpret and comply with applicable rules and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, instruct, and develop student-athletes in swimming & diving fundamentals and strategy.
  • Lead daily practice planning and event/group trainings under Head Coach guidance.
  • Oversee schedule creation, travel coordination, and facility maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Athletics staff to share spaces and resources; support fundraising efforts.

Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate ofthe compensation range for this position. This range takes intoaccount a variety of factors that are considered in makingcompensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge,abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and otherbusiness and organizational needs. Salary offers are determinedbased on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, aswell as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipatedpay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary

The Associate Coach collaborates with the Head Coach oncomprehensive responsibilities associated with Chapman University’sNCAA Division III varsity swimming & diving programs. Primaryresponsbilities include coaching, recruiting, student-athletedevelopment, program administration, equipment management, andsupporting the Department of Athletics. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings,weekends, and team travel. The successful candidate is expected tomaintain full compliance with all rules and regulations establishedby Chapman University, the SCIAC Conference, and the NCAA

Responsibilities
Coaching
  • Coach, instruct, and condition swimming & divingstudent-athletes in sport fundamentals, skill development, andcompetitive strategy while fostering an educationally sound anddevelopmentally enriching environment that supports student-athletesuccess and well-being.
  • Apply strategic vision and leadership to daily practiceplanning and direct aspects of practice, including event/grouptrainings.
  • In alignment with Head Coach, provide program oversight,including building a competitive NCAA intercollegiate schedule,coordinating safe and responsible travel to and from awaycompetitions, and facility maintenance.
  • Partner with other Athletics department staff to share commonfacility spaces.
  • Cultivate fundraising through relationships with donors andelevating program status on campus and in the community.
Team and Campus Operations
  • Serve as game administrator for home sporting events, includingoversight of gameday student employees, liaising with gameofficials and visiting teams, and providing a safe and respectfulenvironment for spectators.
  • Responsible for facility management, equipment operations,internal operations, and compliance.
Recruiting
  • Lead recruiting efforts to scout and identify prospectivestudent-athletes consistent with institutional admissions androster management expectations.
  • Partner with the Office of Admissions to remain in alignmentwith University goals in recruiting prospective students.
Compliance & Institutional Alignment
  • Maintain full compliance with NCAA and SCIAC rules andregulations. Participate in required departmental, conference, andNCAA meetings, education, and training programs, and adhere touniversity and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Promote and enforce the highest standards of competitiveintegrity, academic responsibility, and professional conduct forstudent-athletes consistent with university policies, departmentalexpectations, and NCAA regulations.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) and Title IXMandatory Reporter and fulfill all associated training andreporting obligations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education andrelevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant coaching experience withassigned sport(s).
  • Technical expertise and knowledge of swimming & divingcoaching, training, and program management at the collegelevel.
  • Experienced leadership skills and effective interpersonalcommunicator, with the ability to work collaboratively withstudents and colleagues
  • Proven ability to recruit, motivate, develop, and retainstudent-athletes consistent with institutional and NCAA DivisionIII philosophies.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and maintaincompliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with theability to manage multiple priorities and deadlineseffectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise soundjudgment and discretion, and take initiative on matters ofsignificance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with NCAA Division III and SCIACenvironment, and familiarity with rules and regulations.
