Job Summary

The Associate Chief Radiation Therapist supports the Chief Radiation Therapist in managing the daily operations of the Radiation Oncology Department. Key responsibilities include reviewing and coordinating patient treatment schedules, overseeing room utilization, and conducting staff orientation to treatment equipment. This role has direct responsibility for staff scheduling, linear accelerator utilization, review of treatment plans, physician orders, and record-and-verify documentation prior to treatment initiation. The Associate Chief also serves as a resource for staff and collaborates on staff educational development initiatives. In addition, this role ensures high-quality patient care, maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and contributes to strategic planning and implementation of clinical protocols. The Associate Chief performs the full scope of duties of the Chief Radiation Therapist-excluding performance evaluations and timecard management. The role may also assist with research projects, innovative treatment techniques, or complex therapeutic procedures. Additional responsibilities include supporting training programs for student technologists, coordinating formal learning opportunities for staff and visiting professionals, collaborating on quality assurance initiatives, and facilitating staff safety and competency coordination. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
  • Valid certificate in Radiation Therapy Technology issued by the California State Department of Health
  • Certificate by the American Registry and Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy, RT (T)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
  • Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy school
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in acute radiation oncology department.
  • Knowledge of current practices in radiation therapy.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, machine breakdowns, heavy patient volume and emergency cases.
  • Ability to recognize and report any adverse reactions by patients to therapy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others and secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of people.
  • Ability to understand and implement the requirements of providing patient care with a highly regulated and constantly changing environment.

Work Environment
